British citizenship test examples — what to expect on the day

Expect the question screen to look very simple: question on top, four answer options below as clickable radio buttons, and a Next button. There's a question counter (1 of 24) and a timer (45 minutes total). You can flag a question and come back to it, and you can change your answer right up until you submit. No essay questions, no spelling, no maths — just multiple choice. The questions are plain English at roughly B1 reading level. If you've prepared, the format itself won't surprise you on the day.

FAQ

Common questions

Where can I find British citizenship test questions and answers?
On this page (5 sample questions above), in our 2 free practice tests at /practice-test/01 and /practice-test/02, and on our dedicated /life-in-the-uk-test-questions hub. All in the exact 24-question multiple-choice format.
Are British citizenship questions the same as Life in the UK questions?
Yes — identical. "British citizenship test", "Life in the UK test", "UK citizenship test" and "British nationality test" are interchangeable names for the same 24-question exam drawn from the same handbook.
What do British citizenship test examples look like?
Plain-English multiple-choice questions, single-answer or 'select two from four', covering British history, government, society, values and geography. The 5 examples above (Battle of Hastings, House of Commons size, rule of law, capital of Wales, patron saint of Scotland) are representative of the difficulty and style.
How many questions are on the British citizenship test?
24 multiple-choice questions. You have 45 minutes and need 18 correct (75%) to pass.
How much does the official British citizenship test cost?
£50 per attempt, paid to gov.uk when booking. Each retake also costs £50, with a 7-day cool-off between attempts. Our practice platform is independent: 2 tests are completely free; £9.99 unlocks the remaining 43 plus training mode and cheat sheets.
Can I take the British citizenship test online?
The official test must be sat in person at a registered test centre. You can however practise online for free on this site — we replicate the exact 24-question format.
Are these the real exam questions?
No — and no honest site has them, because the official question pool is confidential. Our questions are written in the exact same format and difficulty by people who recently sat and passed the test, and reviewed monthly.
