What every option has in common

All seven use the real format: 24 multiple-choice questions and, where a timer is offered, 45 minutes, with 18/24 (75%) to pass (GOV.UK). None of them has the real exam questions — those are confidential, and the official TSO app says so itself. Every question on every site is written from the same source: Life in the United Kingdom: A Guide for New Residents (3rd edition), which GOV.UK recommends you study.

LifeUKPractice — best fully free option

LifeUKPractice offers 20 full mocks built from 495 questions, plus 10 chapter quizzes, with explanations at the end of each test. It says "Free forever. No signup" and has no paywall. Best for: anyone who wants to practise for free without creating an account. Watch for: no progress history across devices and no app stated.

lifeintheuk-tests.uk — most tests, progress tracking (ours)

Our site has 45 full tests. Tests 01–10 are free with no sign-up; a free account then reveals the right answer, explanation and memory tip for every question on those tests, and tracks your average against the 75% pass mark on a practice calendar. £9.99 one-off (no subscription) unlocks the other 35 tests, training mode and six cheat sheets. There's an Android app and a ChatGPT app. Best for: people who want lots of distinct mocks and to see when they're consistently test-ready. Our limits: explanations need an account, the full bank is paid, and there's no iPhone app yet.

PassCitizen — simplest question bank

PassCitizen draws timed 24-question mocks from a bank of 200 UK questions, with no account — answers are saved on your device. It covers citizenship tests for several countries. Best for: quick, no-fuss mocks. Watch for: a smaller bank, so repeats come sooner.

Life in the UK Practice Test — strongest app, subscription priced

lifeintheukpracticetest.co.uk has 20 mocks and 696 questions, iOS and Android apps that work offline, and explanations in 13 languages. The first tests are free; full access is £3.99 a week. Best for: learners who want explanations in their own language. Watch for: the weekly subscription adds up if you study for more than a few weeks.

life-in.uk — free daily test, paid audio course

life-in.uk gives one free, timed 24-question test a day, but shows only your score and which questions were wrong — not the right answers. Its £39 course (180 days) adds 628 questions with audio explanations in Polish, Romanian, Spanish, French and Russian. Best for: audio learners who prefer one of those languages.

SettleWise and the official TSO app

SettleWise is mainly a settlement and citizenship planning site; its free 24-question mock runs in your browser and explains answers at the end. The official TSO app (£5.99) comes from the handbook's publisher, works offline and has voiceover, but its iPhone rating is 3.4★ from about 1,400 reviews. Best for: SettleWise if you're also planning your ILR timeline; TSO if you want the publisher's own material offline.

How to choose

  • Free, no account, explanations: LifeUKPractice or SettleWise.
  • Most mocks and a readiness tracker: start our free Test 01, then decide whether you need the other 35.
  • Explanations in your own language: Life in the UK Practice Test (13 languages) or life-in.uk (audio, 5 languages).
  • Offline on a phone: the TSO app, Life in the UK Practice Test, or our Android app.
Whatever you pick, don't rely on one source: read the handbook, take at least four timed mocks, and book the £50 test when you score 20+ out of 24 consistently. For apps, books and paid courses beyond these sites, see our practice resources comparison.
Free progress tracking

Know when you're ready to pass

Every practice test you sit counts towards the real goal: 18 out of 24 (75%) on the day. See where your scores stand, how you compare with people who pass, and when you're ready to book.

  • Readiness against the pass mark.
  • A calendar that shows you're on track.
  • A leaderboard to keep you going.

Free, no sign-up to start. A free account keeps your progress on every device.

FAQ

Common questions

What is the best free Life in the UK practice test site?

Do any sites have the real Life in the UK test questions?
No. The real questions are confidential. Every practice site writes its own questions from the official handbook — be wary of any site claiming to have the actual exam questions.
